Built about 1870 and named for the locally prominent Willard family, this is the eastern, historic half of Hartland's Willard Twin bridges, two covered bridges joined by a small island in the Ottauquechee at North Hartland. A mill dam and later a hydroelectric station stood beside the crossing. It was renovated in 1953 and repaired in 1979 and, unlike its western twin, has needed no wholesale replacement.
