Built in 1872 by 22-year-old Caleb Lamson for $7,777 after three earlier bridges at the site were lost to floods in 1826, 1839 and 1869, this is the longest covered bridge entirely within Vermont and the only known surviving work of Lamson. A scaffolding collapse during construction killed one worker and permanently injured Lamson's back. It was closed for safety in 1993 and given a major renovation, completed in 1998, that replaced most lattice members and the floor and roof beams.
