Standing in the center of Waterville village beside the Union Church, the Village Bridge, also called the Church Street or Lower Bridge, was built about 1877 by an unknown builder and is the furthest downstream of the town's three covered bridges. Steel I-beams were installed under it after a truck's rear wheels fell through its floor in 1967, and in 1970 firefighters hosed the bridge down to save it from a fire in a nearby house. It was completely rebuilt in 2000. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
