Built about 1840 by Benjamin Sears of the local Sears bridge-building family, the Silk Road bridge is among the oldest surviving covered bridges in Bennington County, on a crossing site used since the 1790s. It was restored in 1991 and repaired again after flood damage from Tropical Storm Irene on August 28, 2011. Despite its name, local histories say the Silk name came from residents, not silk manufacturing.
