Built in 1870 by Townshend carpenter and Civil War veteran Harrison Chamberlin after the flood of 1869, the Scott bridge combines a Town lattice span with laminated arch and two kingpost spans, giving it the longest single covered span in Vermont at about 166 feet. It is now a state-owned historic site. Vehicles were banned in 1955 and all traffic, including foot traffic, was banned in 2012 as deterioration worsened, before a major rehabilitation designed to reopen it to pedestrians.
