Named for the Sanderson family, whose farm nearby dates to 1825, this is the only covered bridge remaining in Brandon. A state inspection closed the original bridge in the late 1980s and a temporary steel bridge carried traffic beside it for years. Because building a new permanent bridge would have required an expensive archaeological survey of the site, the town instead rebuilt the covered bridge, a roughly $830,000 project completed by Blow & Cote in 2003 using what sound timbers could be salvaged from the old structure. Water damage was blamed in part on a roof built with almost no eave overhang, which let water run down into the lower timbers.
