Also called the Paper Mill Bridge, this double-barreled, two-lane Burr arch bridge is one of only two such bridges in Vermont and one of a handful in the United States, and it is the only one still carrying regular traffic. Traditionally dated to about 1820, it is regarded as the oldest covered bridge in Vermont, though its exact age is debated. Built as a single span, it developed structural problems early on: laminated arches were substituted around 1860 and two piers were later added in Otter Creek, dividing it into three spans. It was closed from January to November 2012 for a major rehabilitation and continues to carry Seymour Street traffic between Middlebury and Weybridge.
