The original Mill Bridge was built in 1883 by Arthur C. Adams beside the Hayward and Kibby (later Hayward and Noble) mill in Tunbridge Village. An ice jam in the winter of 1999 shifted the bridge off its abutments, and its remains were burned on the river so they would not threaten the covered bridges downstream. The community replaced it the following year with a new bridge built as closely as possible to the original design. The 1883 bridge had been listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
