Listed in bridge guides under the Orton Farm, its site, the Martin Covered Bridge was built about 1890 by Herman F. Townsend, a prominent local bridgewright. It is Marshfield's only surviving historic covered bridge and one of the few 19th-century Vermont bridges originally built to carry a private farm road rather than a public highway. It stands just off U.S. Route 2 in southern Marshfield and is now open only to pedestrians.
