Known locally as the Second Bridge or Newell Bridge, this queen post span is the middle member of the three covered bridges that carry Cox Brook Road within a quarter mile at Northfield Falls. From it, the much larger Northfield Falls (Station) Bridge over the Dog River is visible, an arrangement unique in Vermont. Its builder is unknown, and in the 1960s its wooden deck supports were replaced with steel I-beams, leaving the historic trusses to carry only the bridge's own superstructure.
