The original Hall bridge was built about 1867 by Sanford Granger, Rockingham's master bridge builder, when it was one of three surviving 19th-century covered bridges in a town that once had seventeen. An overweight truck loaded with stone destroyed it on October 2, 1980. Milton S. Graton built an authentic replica in 1982, famously using oxen to pull the finished bridge into place, complete with the original's unusually narrow twelve-foot portals.
