Built in the 1870s by Marcus Worden, this bridge anchors the remarkably preserved village of Green River with its mill pond and unpaved roads. For decades residents' mailboxes were mounted inside the bridge, prompting a 1953 Connecticut newspaper to call it the only place where you had to drive through the post office to get across town; the mailboxes were removed around 1990. Its remote location has spared it the heavy traffic that stressed many other bridges.
