Built in 1889 by Brownsville wheelwright Stephen F. Hammond, this short bridge uses an unusual laminated tied-arch design, with five bolted layers of planking forming each arch, well suited to a short, lightly traveled crossing. It is also called the Swallow bridge, for Amasa W. Swallow, who owned the farm beside it in the 1880s; the Best name comes from William Edgar Best, who bought that farm in 1896. Older sources crediting Swallow as builder appear to misread the 1889 town report.
