π¬ The Inn at Shelburne Farms is about as storied a place to stay as Vermont gets. It's the 19th-century country estate home of William Seward and Lila Vanderbilt Webb, opened to overnight guests in 1987 and now part of the nonprofit Shelburne Farms β a 1,400-acre working farm and National Historic Landmark on the shores of Lake Champlain. Twenty-four guest rooms and several guest houses sit amid fields and lake views, each one furnished with historic pieces. The farm-to-table dining room builds its menu around the farm's own market garden, farmstead cheddar, and seasonal meats. Open seasonally, mid-May to mid-October, and proceeds support the farm's education work.
