💬 The newest state hatchery, opened in 1991 on Grand Isle with Lake Champlain as its water source, raises lake trout, landlocked Atlantic salmon, steelhead, walleye and brown and rainbow trout. A visitor center with large aquariums anchors the self-guided tour, and every June the hatchery pond hosts the Family Fishing Festival on Free Fishing Day, where kids can catch a trout.
