This is the last weekend before Halloween, and Vermont is going all in. Haunted trails lit by a thousand jack-o'-lanterns, ghost walks through downtown Burlington and a candlelit cemetery, the 65th annual Rutland Halloween Parade, a castle in Proctor, and an entire festival devoted to turnips in Wardsboro. The foliage is past peak in most of the state, but the season is going out with a bang.
We've rounded up forty things to do this Saturday and Sunday, October 24-25 β from Jay and St. Johnsbury down through Rutland and Woodstock to Brattleboro and Bennington. There are big nights out (Mavis Staples in Rutland, Roy Wood Jr. in Woodstock, Rocky Horror in Burlington), small-town traditions, final farmers markets of the season, and a few last chances at farms and museums before their fall hours end.
Use the finder below to sort everything by drive time: tap the button to use your location, or type in a town or ZIP code. Costumes are encouraged almost everywhere you go.
A few notes before you head out: the color is past peak now, so think atmosphere over foliage this weekend β bare branches, woodsmoke, and early dusk are the backdrop, and honestly they suit Halloween fine. Several evening events are ticketed and can sell out, so check the event's own page before you drive. If you're headed to the Rutland parade, downtown streets close at 4:45pm on Saturday β get parked before then.
Have a great Halloween weekend out there. π
