The color came early and all at once this year, and now the clock is ticking. Peak foliage swept across Vermont this past week, and by this Saturday the north will be past its best while the southern valleys hold the last great color of the season. This is the foliage finale โ the final weekend to catch it before the hills go bare.
We've rounded up forty things to do this Saturday and Sunday, October 17-18, leaning into the mountain towns and high-elevation spots where the late color hangs on longest โ from Jay and Montgomery down through the Mad River Valley to Townshend and the southern Green Mountains.
Use the finder below to sort everything by drive time: tap the button to use your location, or type in a town or ZIP code. Go chase the last of the color.
A few notes before you head out: the north is past peak now, so set expectations accordingly up there โ still beautiful, just thinner. The southern half of the state should have the best color this weekend. Most of these are rain-or-shine, but check the event's own page before you drive โ times and ticket availability can change. And if you're coming from out of state, give yourself extra time on Route 100 and Route 9 โ everyone else had the same idea.
Have a great weekend out there. ๐
